When the conspiracy theorists are correct, they promptly get rename citizen journalist. The issue with being a conspiracy theorists is that the label takes time to develop.
When the scientists were trying anything and everything to solve Covid-19, we did not call them conspiracy theorists. We only called out the doctors who were not willing to do proper research or jumping to conclusions with interesting stories.
Just taking a different position is not the issue. You need to take a position on a topic that the organization did a cover up. Or chose to suppress. The other issue is that it is easier to label the opposition emotional, irrational or vindictive than to call him or her a conspiracy theorist.
