To Be or Not to Be
That is the question
Donald Trump in the last days of his presidency tweeted to his supporters to “be wild” at a protest in the Capitol. Trump supporters promptly wrote themselves into the history books by storming the Capitol. The Right then changed its tune to that of not condoning violence.
People want to tweet 1776, shot heard around the world and be wild are then surprised when Trump supporters got the wrong message.
Lip service to ideals
This is not about disparaging the First Lady. She had the misfortune of being the current wife of the 45th President. There was a Be Best campaign that needs to be mentioned.
The truth was that the campaign was always a lip service to ideals. The entire campaign was the epitome of going through the motions. The name was suspected to have been plagiarized from the 44th President’s wife’s “Be Better” slogan. The Be Best campaign has rather vague goals and commitment. It was against cyberbullying (even though Trump engaged in it.)
This is important in understanding why the 2020 GOP did not have a platform (Please don’t say it recycled the 2016 platform because it criticizes the “current president”.). It is difficult to nail your colours to a mast if you do not want to show your true colours.
Closing the stable doors after the horse has bolted
The First Daughter tweeted be peaceful after the violence broke out. This is rather late considering that she kept quiet when her brother was tweeting about giving certain people a Trump Texas welcome in 2020. If you did not know about the incident, Trump supporters decided that “protection” (Read road rage) was an appropriate form of communication.
That is the sad fact about the Right. Except for a few voices, nobody wants to police themselves. Nobody condemn the Be wild tweet. They want blood to boil but are then surprised when blood is spilled. Do people seriously expect others to work themselves into a frenzy and then meditate or pray peacefully on being non violent?
But other people
I know that the Right will promptly complain about the riots in 2020. So the lesson to take home is imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Or that the Left should take notes about how to conduct an effective protest?
What about learning what was done in January 2017 in the last days of Obama? What about the voters who waited until 2020 to vote out the President?
The protest was about the right for Trump to stay in power for 4 more years. That is for a President who spent more time golfing, ignoring his daily intelligence briefing and watching Fox News while in office. Sounds like reasons to retain an employee?
Be matured? Be honest? Behave?
