The definition of articulate is quite difficult. But the player has to be able to explain his ideas because his coach will be asking questions. I have been in chess clubs and everybody will be asking the same question. Why did you do this dumb thing at this point? We do also analyze the positions of other games.

One other thing is that good players try to play to a certain position that they are familiar with. They have played out variations of the position so they want to talk about their homework. (It is not like you can reuse your homework if works.)
