Respect takes effort. It means treating the employee respectfully every day. It means listening to their feedback. It means you cannot just recite a script (Sad that many managers think management is just reading lines.). The problem is that bosses like to ration their goodies.
It hard for some employers who think that being the boss means that their employees are supposed to be punching bags, unpaid therapists or pets to be kicked around.
There is also cost benefit mentality. If I am respectful to my employees, will they promise to work with me forever? Stay with me through thick and thin? Train people for free? Work extra for free?
It is less that managers are not able to respect employees. It is more that the workplace is regarded as an amoral place.
