People often confuse business with personal feeling. Teamwork can only exist if you understand and trust the people you work with. That will not happen among strangers. If it takes coffee or presents or pizzas to know the person, so be it.
What creates trust is if one's motives are clear and acceptable. I will help you if you will help me or help the team.
I have worked in teams where I was obeying dangerous orders just after knowing the leader for less than two weeks. I have also worked in organizations where I would not obey a similar order even after I had been there for two years.
While I would not want to be friends with both leaders, I at least respected the first leader because at least I trust his motives.
