I think that one problem with the working world is that they think you need to play good cop, bad cop. Or there needs to be a bad guy to deal with problems.

As the saying goes, if you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Managers start thinking I have tried praise and it does not work so lets try shouting.

Another issue is that managers do not want to lose any of their arsenal. "I can't crack the whip over their head?" And then wonder why their medieval management processes are posted on the Internet.
