I think most short-sighted politicians want this type of tourism. A tourist that comes from the airport to his or her (overprice) hotel. Then goes to one or two locations like a stadium or a sports facility. Pays for the expensive meals and drinks.

Then goes back to the hotel. To be repeated until the event is over.

As opposed to the ordinary tourist who comes to see the zoo, museum and other higher maintenance tourists traps with more competitive pricing.

As for what comes after the Olympics can be left to the next government.
