I think it is understanding that the dog is like a kid. The dog does not get options like playing in traffic or fighting with other dogs. Or even baths. But then there are a lot of parenting styles. Some human kids eat anything. Some dogs are picky eaters. I have seen joggers dragging an unhappy dog. Or dogs dragging their unhappy owner.
