I suspect words like empathy and mission are just concepts that the business world borrows and then tries to write it into their system without accepting any trade-offs. Like the term Kaizen which translates to bring the management good ideas that can be implemented for free. Yet they can never tell you how they Kaizen their way to the top.

The cynical me also see it as a way to blame the employee.
