I suspect that Trump is not that much of a fool. To use a sports analogy, his team is outmatched (Both by legal experience and facts). Instead of losing the game by playing by the rules, he is trying to turn it in into a free for all.
If a judge or anybody not on Trump's team was roughed up in the process, that is a win in Trump's books. That a witness for Trump who is a lawyer had to be reprimanded by the judge is just Trump's version of a pitch invasion. Which is why Trump wants more supporters at his trial.
