I read this article and the replies with some sadness. The city dwellers are consumers of the produces of the farms. Even the tofu-eating city people will still contribute in some way like managing logistics.
I understand the Nebraska farm family does not want to be challenged on green house gases. But it is a fact of life. Farmers benefiting from water right do also get tough questions by parched city dwellers. The beef, corn or milk is not totally consumed in Nebraska. It is eaten by people in other states. And those coastal states have substitutes from overseas.
Even if everything is sold overseas, it can be affected in a trade war. As the case 4 years ago, the mega donor farm products will be exempted.
Remember the lesson of Brexit when the British now get to keep all their fishes because their overseas markets have disappeared.
On one hand, American farmers want other Americans to buy their produces. On the other hand, they do not want to listen to American customers' feedback.
You can't have your cake and eat it too.
