As a person who is called "mad scientist", life usually puts limits on thrill seeking. A few electric shocks or explosions usually dampens the excitement.
I also had the experience of working in the medical profession so sending people to the hospital or treating them does reduce the thrill of fun. To be fair, most of those patient seldom made a second visit to the hospital for the same reason. It is really difficult to be bitten by a snake if you are not playing with it.
My opinion is recognizing bad advice is more important than be able to judge the risk. I would have less accidents if those stupid ideas did not come as orders or expert advice. When the expert is not doing it himself or herself, it is usually a bad idea.
